In 1979, Robert Heckmann founded Northern Aircraft Traders Ltd. The company was primarily involved with general aviation aircraft in Alaska.

By 1985, Turbo North Aviation, Ltd came into existence with a good portion of company sales involving turbines and helicopters, with emphasis on foreign markets. By 1989, an office was opened in Southeast Asia to support this.

With its affiliated partners in Australia, Africa, New Zealand, Thailand, Canada, Bangladesh, China, and the United States, Turbo North continues to stay busy in the turbine/helicopter markets in addition, also offering larger transports and business jets.
